Thousands of behind the scenes volunteers make the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon such a success. Here are a few of their stories.
3/1/14 - Artie & Erica Stevens
We would like to recognize Artie & Erica Stevens as our volunteers of the month. This past year Artie and Erica staffed the t-shirt exchange at the IMM Health and Fitness Expo. The first time IMM volunteers enjoyed meeting new people, making sure the participants had the proper t-shirt, and seeing their excitement.
Artie and Erica are no strangers to volunteering. They also give time to the Wheeler Mission Ministries Drumstick Dash, Center for Women and Children, and Indy Metro Church. Artie and Erica volunteer within the children's ministry at Indy Metro Church, which is an IMM Run for A Cause Charity Partner.
Thank you Artie & Erica for your commitment to the IMM!

1/2/14 - Ann Berkemeier
We would like to recognize Ann Berkemeier as our volunteer of the month. Ann has been with the IMM from the beginning as she has volunteered for all six event weekends. Throughout the years she has filled several roles at packet pick-up and on event day. In 2013 she helped with packet pick-up set up and packet pick-up at the two day IMM Health and Fitness Expo as well as Gear Check on Saturday morning.
In addition to volunteering for the IMM, Ann volunteers at her church, St. Mark Catholic Church, the St. Vincent DePaul Society Food Pantry, and several other endurance events that raise funds for charitable causes. She is inspired by those who participate in the races and feels this is one way she can contribute to the cause.
Outside of volunteering Ann enjoys spending time with her husband, Art, their four children and three grandchildren. She's also an avid walker who gets in 5 1/2 miles each morning.
Thank you Ann for your continued commitment to the IMM!
12/11/13 - Anthony Williams
We would like to recognize Anthony Williams as our volunteer of the month. Anthony volunteered over 18 hours of his time at the two day IMM Health and Fitness Expo in 2013. His duties included serving as Volunteer Check-in Coordinator as well as helping coordinate the logistics for the preparation of participant packets.
In addition to volunteering for the IMM, Anthony has been a volunteer for IMM charity partner Back on My Feet since 2011. He currently serves as the Team Organizer for their Wheeler Mission Team. He has also been involved with the Miss America organization for over 10 years, serving in numerous capacities.
Anthony is an avid runner who has completed one marathon and several half marathons including the last three IMM half marathons. He is currently preparing for his second full marathon in the spring of 2014.
Earlier in 2013, Anthony had a Monumental Story of his own when The Huffington Post featured an article detailing how his passion for running helped him lose over 100 pounds. Read the entire story here.
Thank you Anthony for your commitment to the IMM and good luck with your continued preparation for a spring marathon!
