$122,000 IN DONATIONS AWARDED TONIGHT AT PACERS HOME OPENER

IPS Education Foundation, Simon Youth Foundation, & College Summit to receive checks

October 29, 2013 - The Indianapolis Monumental Marathon (IMM) will present checks tonight totaling $122,000 to IPS Education Foundation (IPSEF), the Simon Youth Foundation, and College Summit. The presentation will take place at Bankers Life Fieldhouse during half-time of the Indiana Pacers home opener. Representatives from all these partners, as well as from Franciscan St. Francis Health, Apex Benefits Group, and PepsiCo, whose support has made this donation possible, will be in attendance.

Since its inception in 2008, the IMM has donated over $400,000 to IPS charities.

All monies impact IPS students. The IPSEF invests the funds in health and wellness initiatives that align with the IMM's own mission of educating Indianapolis youth about the benefits of exercise, proper diet and healthy living. IPS School #19, this year named S.U.P.E.R. School (Students Understanding through Powerful and Energetic Routines) is the only one of its kind in the U.S. where active based learning is embraced. Fitness and athletic equipment in this and other IPS schools have been purchased with funds from the IMM. IPSEF will receive a check for $87,750.

The Simon Youth Foundation works to improve educational opportunities for at-risk youth through focused initiatives with its partners in public education, including IPS. IMM funds will benefit students in the Simon Youth Academies working towards graduating high school and preparing for post-secondary education. The Simon Youth Foundation will receive a check for $29,250.

College Summit is a program that provides a launchpad to low-income students for college and career success. Funds from the IMM support efforts in Arsenal Tech High School. College Summit will receive a check for $5,000.

This year's Indianapolis Monumental Marathon is Nov. 2, and includes a full marathon, half marathon, 5K and Kids Fun Run. Included in the 5K will be 1,000 IPS students who have participated in the Monumental Kids Movement, a program in 17 IPS schools as well as the Challenge Foundation Academy.
